To Whom Much Is Given
Ecclesiastes 6:1-2
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun and it is prevalent among men— a man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor so that his soul lacks nothing of all that he desires; yet God has not empowered him to eat from them, for a foreigner enjoys them. This is vanity and a severe affliction.
It seems like we Americans might be among those who fit this description. Here in the 21st century we live as free people enjoying an economy that provides seemingly unlimited opportunities for a satisfying life. And yet if we don’t know and trust THE God to be our god, then we cannot and do not fully enjoy and benefit from our freedoms and opportunities. And that’s a shame.
And I suppose the other side of that is equally true. If we are living free within a great economy, and know and walk with THE God, living and trying to serve Him and His, and we do not make use of the incredible blessings He has lavished upon us, is that too not a shame? To whom much is given, much shall be required (Luke 12:48).
What do you think about that? Am I missing it? And if not, how might we use our blessings to serve God’s people?
